Welcome to TGoL

"The Game of Life", or TGoL, is a semi-realistic, post-by-post, wolf roleplay site based around a chess metaphor for a war between two packs: Light and Dark Pack, respectively, to match the light and dark pieces on a chess board. The wolves themselves don't know anything about chess of course, only that they are locked in a seemingly eternal battle for the rights to their thriving yet limited land. Tensions are high, blood has been shed, and all must be careful which move they make next, for it could either ensure a victory for them or the end of everything. You, as a player, may either play a wolf from one of the packs, directly involved with the war in some way, or a loner on the outside, either looking in, taking advantage of the distracted packs, or staying out of it all together.

The ice and snow of winter are finally starting to melt away as things warm up, making way for budding flowers, returning prey, and spring showers. Mating season is no longer in effect, but those whom did get pregnant should expect to give birth within the season, towards the beginning of Summer. Prey is steadily becoming a little more plentiful, which is good news, but all of the melting snow/ice and the spring showers are causing The Divide and Flatlands to flood, coaxing both packs to stay on their respective sides... lest they wish to get swept down stream.

4.26.2018 - A new announcement has been made in regards to major revisions/additions to the site! Read here.

4.2.2018 - An "Activity" section has been added to the Rules thread, since I realized this was never clearly defined. In addition to this, a thread for making characters inactive and a thread to take an offical abesence have been added. I've also enabled guests to be able to view the IC and Player Record Book boards in their entirety so you can get a feel for activity/characters before joining the site!

4.1.2018 - The theme's been changed to have a little more color and to be a bit more visually appealing!

3.4.2018 - TGoL has offically been completed and is now open to new members, so feel free to join and submit your characters for acceptance! We have many high rank positions open in both packs and would like to get those filled as soon as possible. Also, please advertise us to anyone you think might be interested!

CURRENCY

What are 'Crowns'?
Crowns are the form of fictional currency we use here at TGoL. No, our characters do not use them in game to purchase things for themselves, but rather you the player can gather Crowns and use them to buy special bells and whistles for your wolves. These can range from unique character traits that aren't typically allowed (like fantasy coat patterns) to battle aids (like an extra guaranteed hit during fights) to many other things!

How are Crowns earned?
Crowns can be earned in numerous ways, but the easiest and most common is simply making a post in the IC boards. For each new post, you receive 5 Crowns, and for each new thread you create, you earn 10 Crowns (note those don't stack, so you get 10 for making a thread, then 5 for each reply afterward, not 15 for each thread you make). Now that may not seem like much, especially not when compared to the prices in the shop, but these Crowns will accumulate very quickly if you are active. Since 1 thread tends to be, on average, at least 10 replies long (including the starting post), that's roughly 5 posts per player, which will already add up to 25 Crowns (and if you started the thread, it will be 30). 25-30 Crowns earned in one thread with a bare minimum of 5 replies from either player; imagine how many more you'd earn with other threads and longer threads. Besides, even if that still seems like a small amount, the items in the shop aren't meant to be easy purchases; a lot of them really put the "semi" in "semi-realistic", and others can give your wolf a major advantage in battles and hunts. Not to mention the Crowns system is also meant to be an incentive to get players role playing.

Additionally, Crowns (and other special items not in the shop) can be earned through participating in site events, and typically, the earning amount for Crowns will be larger in events than normal threads, so be on the lookout for those. You can also earn Crowns by advertising us on other forums; just make sure to check that we haven't already advertised there, or that if we have, we are allowed to post again. To earn this way, simply make an ad somewhere (in the proper section of the forum) using the code here, then screenshot or link it and send it to an Admin. You will receive 20 Crowns per ad.

SHOP

You can access the shop here, and instructions for purchasing and using items will be located there as well. In the shop, you will find the items you can purchase with your Crowns, sorted into various different groups. Some things to note:

Items under Char. Features can only be used on new characters; you cannot purchase these items and apply them to already existing characters. When applying them to new characters, they obviously need to be bought before you submit your character for approval.
Read the item descriptions carefully, as their specific rules and uses will be given.
You can return your bought items and get your Crowns refunded only if the items have not been used. You cannot buy an item, apply it to a character, and then return it to regain your Crowns.
